The written word and a couple of signatures
This morning I read the Declaration of Independence for the first time in a long time. The power of the ideas and the beauty of the language hit me hard.
It’s concise and persuasive—a couple of paragraphs and some bullet points justifying the revolution.
But it’s just a piece of paper signed by some people. My daily work is writing documents for people to sign, and I can sometimes take for granted the importance of the written word and some signatures.
There’s power there to change the course of nations and history. And the power to help families through difficult times and across generations.
