The beginning is a good place to start
So, I’ve started my law firm in the middle of a pandemic. This has been such a scary and life-changing time for everyone.
It’s also been a time to focus on what’s really important.
Family and our relationships with other people are the most important things we have. I was able to spend some time with my mom and siblings yesterday for the first time since before the Stay Home order. Something so simple that was so easy to take for granted before.
While changing to working from home during the Stay Home I’ve learned that virtually every part of what I do can be done from home. The important pieces of helping people with their wills or probate or whatever are our relationships with each other as lawyer and client. We need to be able to talk and connect and exchange ideas and information. We can do this in a meeting room. Sure. But it’s not necessary.
The Plan Firm is a virtual law firm. (I didn’t just make that term up.)
Virtual law firms are firms without the brick-and-mortar office space. It has been a trend growing in the legal field for many years. There are probably so many lawyers who are like me and are making the switch now to meeting by phone or video or in clients’ homes or temporary meeting spaces.
One of my favorite Bible verses is:
I remember reading the verse on a sign in a popcorn shop when I was in college and it’s stuck with me ever since. This new adventure of starting my own law firm has been in my heart for a long time but I never saw the world changing as part of it.
I’m going to just keep making new plans.
